Growing up in a diverse country, I learn to observe things from different perspectives. Besides engaging with the many important, I recognize that people is the primary aspect that unites what our nature offers. People can influence and alter one another in a profound way as we find ourselves congruous with our observations and beliefs. Therefore, every individual has the chance to contribute to the society and change the way one sees the world.

When it comes to making a connection with one another, I see business as an important key. John Maynard Keynes, an economist, argued that humans do not always act upon their own interest. Indeed, I agree with his stated opinion and conclude that business revolves around us and our intelligence in order to utilize the other resources wisely to benefit the society. Thus, I felt immensely fascinated in working in a field where my mind and heart belong to.

Curiosity has been propelling me since I was young and I have explored beyond my comfort zone as I grow up. My dad tried to find where my potential lies. As a result, I have become an avid reader because of his encouragement. I was then determined in exceeding my academics, particularly in the fields that I’m most interested to such as economics and mathematics. Prior to that, I had an opportunity to represent my high school when I was in year 11 along with 5 others to attend the seminar conducted by the Financial Services Authority of Indonesia and that’s when I started gaining my interest in learning more about finance and business. Moreover, my mother, who is a retail analyst, keeps me updated with recent economic news and I am also currently a digital subscriber of The Economist.

Therefore, based on my strong interest, I would like to obtain a Bachelor degree in Business majoring in Financial Risk Management if I have the opportunity to study at Victoria University in order to be one step closer to my dream. My main goal is to own a hedge fund firm in Indonesia, which will help people to gain more money in terms of something profitable and trustworthy as an alternative to deposits. A big risk I’m willing to take is worth the fight when I keep on going until the output can excel my expectations. One of Victoria University’s notable alumni, Jeffrey Cheah, a conglomerate who runs 12 industries, has proven that. Even with a different specialization in business, I still believe that in order to lead any competitive business with high stakes, one need to be intelligent, outgoing, dedicative, optimistic, responsible and open-minded especially when it comes to facing a dynamic world and with the qualities I’m keen on developing, I can picture myself reaching those objectives.

Besides my self-driven ambitions, what motivates me to fulfill this comes from my experience when I conducted a charity event for my 17th birthday at Rumah Singgah Nuansa Kasih, an orphanage managed by one of the strongest women I know, Ibu Lucy, who motivates and inspires me. During the visit, I earned values such as teamwork, dedication and organizing. I brought 16 other friends to come with me and I was glad and proud that they were enthusiastic about this humble project. We documented our visit and I felt it as something personal, emotional and practical. Now, every time I recount the memory, it reminds me that my life is not a culmination, I’m still on this roller coaster ride and no matter what, I will always be grateful for having the people who made me who I am today.

So far, I learned that people around me have transformed into a distilled version of themselves. For instance, as they grow up, they still keep their identity and principles despite living in diversity. Accordingly, accepting and complimenting every void in different cultures can make differences a beauty. For that reason, a lot of students from all over the world would love the opportunity to prove that.

The fact that Victoria University is located in Melbourne, the second largest city in Australia, is already something to be taken into account. Besides its strategic location which can benefit undergraduates for internships and interactive learning with their surroundings, Victoria University offers both varied undergraduate and postgraduate degrees so that students can fulfill their passion effectively according to their objectives and purposes in life. Furthermore, it emphasizes research and it is ready to accommodate what we want to contribute to our community. Hence, hopeful aspiring students like me would find themselves drawn into their insights as they long to experience a new journey in their life.
