What major will I study in the university? For some high school students, it is the most frustrating question. Picking a major is not a simple thing. I, myself, had a hard time choosing college majors. They say, following your hobby or your passion will lead your way. Sometimes, they will ask our ambition. Honestly, I do have a lot of hopes and dreams. But the older I get, the more I get disoriented. Every time I had a thought of a certain choice, I tend to doubt.

Suddenly, I met someone who really inspires me. She made me confident on my choice. Once, she told me she became successful because of her passion which is news reading. She fought through hard work and sacrifices, eventually, received the award of the best news anchor in Asia.

Finally, I made my decision, and I am certain. The only thing I want to achieve is to be able to entertain people either to make them laugh, relax and cool down. I just love happy surroundings. From here, I decided to take music major in composition.

Why will I take music? First of all, music is my best friend since I was born. My family exposed me to all types of genres most especially classical and religious ones. My mom played the piano, and my dad played the guitar and the violin. I also play those instruments, but I focus more on piano. Since my early age, my mom has taught me on how to play the piano. I was enrolled in the piano course at the age of five. They always support me through my ups and downs. What I love about playing music is that I can put the noisy audience into silence and make their emotional and mental states at ease.

Listening to music is my energy. Whenever I got stressed out, the piano will never turn its back on me. I may have unpolished techniques in playing the piano, but I am good at entertaining people. In my experience, every time my family invites other relatives at our house, I always play musical instruments and receive several compliments. Even though I

am still an amateur, I am sure that my passion and hard work will bring me up and able to compete with others.

Second, I love movies — watching movies is my hobby. People may say that watching is just a distraction or something that makes us lazy, but not for me. Watching people making videos, learning how to edit one, studying how people add some effects on their project just attract me. The cinematography really inspires me. I would love to learn on how to produce music and incorporate it in visual effects.

My aim is to be Joe Hisaishi. He is a Japanese composer and musical director known for more than 100 film scores and solo albums in 1981. One of his masterpieces is from the Ghibli films directed by Hayao Miyazaki such as Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo and more. His songs are so touching, and nostalgic.

In the future, being able to produce scores for films and to entertain people mean success to me. Therefore, it would be a big opportunity for me to dig deeper and learn how to suit each melody on a certain scene. Understanding how emotions are expressed through music motivates me even more.

Although many people say that taking music major wouldn’t give me a lavish life or lots of job offers, I don’t really mind it. I also do believe that out there I will live my life with music until I die. People may say that I will get bored with my choice, but music is my other half. Some people say music is just a hobby, but I won’t survive without it. I love music, and I am interested in creating one to boost my audiences’ energy like how it always fires up my spirit. It is my passion, and it makes anything about me better.
